We don’t have a dedicated retail space on the farm. The kitchen and dining area are converted into a sales floor, with bins of meat set out for display on the dining room table, boxes of yarn stacked on the cookstove (unlit, of course), reusable bags piled up in baskets beside the woodstove, a check out stand set up on the kitchen island, and folding tables brought in to accomodate any surplus products we may have to display. We’ve considered creating a separate retail space, but our business seems too small to justify it, and we like being able to continue a home and family life while we see to our customers’ needs.
Thus, now that the turkeys are all sold, it is time to close up shop. We pack away the products, put the meat back in the freezer, and return the dining table to its original purpose, where it will host our family Thanksgiving.
It is time for me to sign off for the week. There are pies to bake, family members to spend time with, early morning knitting sessions to be enjoyed beside the woodstove, a novel to finish, maybe even a little music to play, if Bob and I can find a moment…all the things I love to do over the Thanksgiving holiday. I wish all of you the very best, and may you find time to drink in the pleasures that make you, too, feel thankful.
See you next week!

Well, well deserved. May all the enjoyment of the fruits of your labors that you’ve generously given to clients and neighbors grace and grow your own Thanksgiving contentment. We’re thankful for Sap Bush and the Hooper-Hayes Contingent!
