A toast:
I’d like to raises glasses to an amazing girl, who, just after she was born, crippled me with so much love, that all I could do was sit and cry. This is the person who has taught me
- that fairies really do exist
- that Barbie dream houses are best made out of old cardboard boxes
- that if anything is worth having, there is usually (but not always) a way to make it yourself….even if it does involve messing up the craft table, the kitchen table, the floor, and every kitchen counter
- that there is no piece of trash that can’t be turned into a worthwhile craft project
- that even a small 750 square foot cabin could hold a baby sister
- that there is something sacred and profoundly lovable about every person who has joined us this evening
- that we can be as generous with our forgiveness as we can with our love
Saoirse, you are kind, generous, thoughtful, imaginative, intelligent, loving, marvelously independent, and radiantly beautiful from the inside out. I want you to know that I consider it a true privilege that I get to walk this earth as your mom, and I am deeply thankful that you came into this world 10 years ago today.
Thank you to everyone who joined us on Aug 3rd to celebrate Saoirse’s special day, and special thanks to my wonderful friend and photographer, Nancy Daynard, who captured everything with her camera.

What a beautiful child! And what a beautiful day! A couple weeks belated, I raise my morning mugga of favorite tea to Saoirse for a happy birthday! As for all her wonderful traits, just remember, Mommy and Poppy – the apples don’t fall far from the tree! I look forward to seeing happy photos for Ula’s next birthday. Thank you so much for sharing, Shannon!
