May you remember the ancestors who made you,
And the lives that have sustained you.
May you revel in your harvest,
And find abundance at your table.
May you face the fears that are before you,
Laugh in merriment,
And love and honor the death that is the other half of life.

This is my favorite time of year and your words of blessing encapsulate what I cherish about this holiday. It is about endings and accepting that all things end. It is finding what is sweet in the sadness and what is thrilling in the scary. This is nature’s last gasp before the rest, throwing down the fruit and withdrawing the energy in preparation for the next generation. If I could turn over the calendar tomorrow for A New Year, I would. It just fits this time.
