For those of you who are daily blog followers, do you remember a post, way back last spring, when I was sitting out in a sunny spot in the barn, skirting some fleeces from these critters?
Well if you did remember it, good for you. Because I completely forgot about it.
…Until a few days ago, when two giant boxes showed up on the porch from a mill up in Vermont. I had shipped those fleeces up to a mill that specializes in small batch wool processing long ago. When I didn’t hear anything back, I figured the fleeces were worthless, and that they hadn’t bothered to spin the yarn. Was I in for a surprise!
The boxes were filled with two different types of yarn. One was from Pug, our pugnacious (hence the name) Alpaca (who likes to steal hats from anyone who enters the pasture), and from our unique breed of West Fulton hybrid black sheep. They are gorgeous, and SO soft! We have a very limited quantity, but if you order by noon on Friday, we can get them to you in time for the holidays.
Because we had to do super-small mill runs on these fleeces, these yarns are pricier than our beautiful colored yarns, which are spun using our white fleeces up in Prince Edward Island. These specialty yarns are a true luxury, and, I am finding, a delight to knit with. I hope you enjoy them!

These fleeces are so rich, they are almost a true black. This 2-ply yarn comes in 2 ounce skeins, which each contain about 125 yards. They knit up at 4 stitches per inch on size 6 needles.
