As many of you know, Halloween, or Samhain, is a very important holiday in our family and at the cafe. It is a time when we give thanks for the harvest, for the animals who support our way of life, and a time to remember our ancestors and friends who have gone before us. When you come to the cafe this #SapbushSaturday, you’ll notice a few things out of the ordinary:
- The Samhain altar: This is an altar to celebrate our ancestors and to celebrate death, the turning of the seasons. It is our time to remember any loved ones who have left us this year. We will be honoring two customers who we lost: Tom Clack, and Tom Edmunds. If you’d like to bring a picture of a loved one you lost (pets included), please feel free to place it on the altar.
- The Samhain feast: The special will be Samhain stew. We make it with all species of animals we raise. We give thanks that their lives support our own. Then we take some home as a special gift for our pets, thanking them for the roles they play in our happiness and well-being. The meal is a simple one. The intent is to reflect and be grateful. (But don’t worry – it’s also REALLY delicious…especially the pumpkin cake you’ll get for dessert!)
- Our resident psychic: Samhain represents the start of a new year. It is a time to look back at what we’ve lost and gained, but also a time to look forward. Toward that aim, Corbie Mitleid will be on hand to offer free tarot readings. Bring your questions, bring your curiosity.
- Costumes ?!: Our crew loves to dress up, and on this day in particular! Customer costumes are always appreciated (but not required) on this day (or any day at the cafe, for that matter). This is a time to laugh and love, to be contemplative and grateful, as well as full of mirth.
Hope to see you for #SamhainSaturday!
