As some of you are aware, I’ve been working on a novel for like…..oh…..
a decade now.
I’ve done a couple drafts of it.
The current version, however, is over 600 pages, and my agent won’t look at it until I manage to delete 200 pages and find a way to make the story hold together.
Oh…And I need to figure out how to be a lot meaner to my characters.
I had hoped to get this next draft done this winter, but farm responsibilities took precedence.
Then I got an amazing gift — a writing retreat in Harlem.
Yes, Harlem.
One thing I learned going through Bob’s cancer treatment is that the strangeness of the city worked creative wonders for me. It was alien enough that I was able to look back at my subject matter with a clearer head.
So I’ll be absent for the next few weeks. I’ll re-join you in April, when the podcast starts back up for the season.
And remember: Sap Bush Cafe re-opens April first!!!!
Shana
Best wishes for great productivity on your writing retreat!
