I’ll never forget the day a doctor sent my seven-year-old kid out of the room and told me that she was so severely visually learning disabled, she’d likely never be able to read or ride a bike. He didn’t even want to work with her, as her case was too hopeless.
My first step was to write the doctor off as a jerk. My next step was to research and write and advocate until I had put together an A-team who could help her.
And then I had to figure out, how, exactly, to educate this kid, who wasn’t going to be able to thrive in a conventional classroom…much less with conventional homeschooling methods.
And that’s the short story about how I wound up carving time in Ula’s homeschool schedule to apprentice as an intuitive counselor (psychic) with Corbie Mitlied. Ula’s 14 now, and here she’s interviewed by Fen Alankus on Follow the Woo about her empathic journey thus far.
If you’ve ever wondered what homeschooled kids can be like…or if you have followed Sap Bush Hollow or my writing/books from a distance and were curious how our parenting/farming/homeschooling/cafe journey impacted our children, here’s a glimpse into my youngest daughter’s experience in her own words. If you’re the type to disparage psychic phenomena, to dismiss intuition, to worry about your kids’ SAT scores and college admissions, hold onto your hat. You’re about to learn a lot about what it means to have an education….and who might get missed in our conventional system. Just imagine what our future could look like if we made room for all the different ways of knowing. Find the link below, or find it wherever you listen to podcasts.
