Every year since we opened the cafe, we’ve served a very special meal on the final Saturday before Christmas: A simple roasted garlic and butternut bisque, a traditional (grain and gluten-free) Christmas pudding made from dried fruits and local vegetables and our beef tallow; and a glass of our homemade eggnog, made with local milk and our own fresh eggs.
It’s a celebration of both the harvest, with the local vegetables and beef suet, and the return of light, which is signaled by the return of eggs to our hens’ nests (hence the eggnog).
Last year was the first time we missed it. Covid numbers were too high, and we closed our doors for the season right after Thanksgiving.
But this year, we feel it’s safe to push a little farther. We know a number of you come in to partake in this feast as the official start of your holidays, as a way to toast neighbors and friends, and we want to be there to celebrate with you. We’ve got the air filters on, the seating reduced, the windows open while the corner fire roars, masks in place, and some lovely booze to spike your eggnog ….And, of course, for those of you who feel safer maintaining more distance, we also have ample to-go containers.
This will be our last #SapBushSaturday for 2021. We have a lot of plans for the winter while we’re closed, and we fully plan to return with renewed energy in the spring! Of course, all winter long you can order our meats, wool products, frozen soups, stews & curries and more online at SapBushFarmStore.com. You can also pop by our 24-7 honor store in the little red shed at the back of the cafe parking lot any time of the day or night. Hope to see you Saturday!
